We offer editing services in three main areas
CommsGuide provides a full suite of editing services:
- Substantive editing
Copyediting corrects any spelling, punctuation, and grammar errors. Consistency in formatting and styles is also checked.
Substantive editing is a ‘whole of document’ review of your work. It ensures the structure and flow of the content make sense. Substantive edits also identify any areas requiring rewriting to aid clarity.
Proofreading checks the final document, making sure all corrections are complete and no errors have been introduced as the document is finalised. Proofreading can also take care of final formatting and referencing issues.
It’s not always necessary to use all three services.
In some cases, an initial copyedit is all that people require – helping them avoid common spelling and grammatical errors, and tidying up formatting and referencing.
Many people like to use both copyediting and substantive editing – fixing the basics and also seeking advice on the overall structure and flow of their work.
Proofreading can be a standalone process for people who are confident of their work and are only seeking a final ‘clean-up’ of formatting and style for publishing.
